“Ikarbus” was founded in 1923 as the first airplane
factory in the Balkans. It was originally called “Ikarus” after the
famous Greek mythology hero Icarus who fulfilled man’s eternal dream to
be able to fly. |
The
first plane “Brandenburg” was manufactured in 1924. Airplane S-451MM Matica set
the world speed record in 1957. Until 1961, when the factory completely changed
its purpose, more than 1,000 airplanes and gliders were manufactured there.
The first bus was manufactured in “Ikarbus” in 1954, under the license of
Austrian company “Saurer”. So far, more than 20,000 buses were manufactured in
the factory, of which substantial number was exported.
Today, “Ikarbus” is a share-holding company with 720 employees. It is a leading
bus manufacturer in southeastern Europe and represents a huge potential for the
Serbian economy. It manufactures a wide variety of commercial, inter-city and
tourist bases as well as natural gas-powered buses. With its modern design and
technological and technical solutions according to the highest international
standards and norms, “Ikarbus” stands on an equal par with the major European
manufacturers.
“Ikarbus” is particularly relevant in passenger transport. With an annual
production capacity of 1,000 buses, it supplies modern vehicles to towns all
around the world, ensuring a safe and comfortable transport. Their high quality
and reliability have been proven under the toughest conditions, from Russia’s
polar regions to desert areas of Africa.
